Genetech halts trial of cancer drug Avastin
NEW YORK, June 27 (Reuters) - Genentech Inc. said on Tuesday
that it had halted the clinical trial of cancer drug Avastin
in combination with chemotherapy as a first-line treatment
for advanced pancreatic cancer.
Genentech, which is based in South San Francisco,
California, said the Phase III study of the drug did not
meet its primary endpoint of overall survival.
The trial was stopped at the recommendation of an
independent monitoring board based on an interim analysis.
It is very unlikely that significant differences in overall
survival will be shown between treatment arms as the data
mature, the company said.
